Boston Sing-A-Long WTF
Out with colleagues having drinks in Beantown and on at least three occasions people in the bar starting singing along with the song. Not just a few people, but the vast majority. First time, the live band was doing a Dave Matthews cover, so I thought is was a live music thing. Later at another bar, every one sang along to a Journey sappy thing (Don't stop believing....yikes). We felt like strangers in a strange land. Mind you, they were college age and I am an old fart, but still...

Asked several people about Goth nights and was told the only club doing that closed along with the gay bars. Really is another planet.

At least the vast majority of locals are friendly and helpful which would be rare in SF.

But its cold here, so I will be glad to get home to sunny, shallow California.

Man, you ended up in Bizarro Boston or something - we're so not friendly or helpful to strangers, certainly not compared to SF folks. But yea, about two years ago the alt.sex/goth bar of choice, Manray, finally got ousted after years of struggling against developers (the mainstream gay bars and clubs are still going strong). They claimed they'd be reopening at another location, but I'm pretty dubious of that happening at this point.

However, if you're looking for local area goth club nights in Boston in the future, let me know - I'm not a club kid, but I play D&D with a couple of them :).

The shallow end of California's down south, lad...Never been to Boston, so I can't compare that, but L.A. is the puddle of shallowness...

Friendly, singing, helpful people in Massachusetts? Are you sure you were in my home-state? This is the land of small, cold, silent people . . . This is the land where people treat you like you're stealing something from them if you ask for the time! "Don't stop beleiving" huh? I think you slipped through a viel.
